Diabetes Education at Greater Regional Health Our diabetes education program is certified by the American Diabetes Association and the state of Iowa, reflecting our commitment to excellence. We offer a complete range of services designed to treat and manage diabetes, enabling patients to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle. Our program caters to various types of diabetes, including: Prediabetes Type 1 Diabetes Type 2 Diabetes Gestational Diabetes Eligible patients may include those who are newly diagnosed, experiencing changes in diabetes management, or seeking additional education. Understanding diabetes is the first step toward effective management. While diabetes cannot be cured, it can be managed successfully by learning essential skills. Our educators are here to guide you on how diabetes affects your body and what you need to do to live your best life with diabetes. Your Personalized Diabetic Care Team Greater Regional Health boasts a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES) and Registered Dieticians, who collaborate to create a personalized diabetes care plan. Our educators build strong relationships with patients, ensuring a comfortable environment where you can ask questions and receive guidance. Regular communication between your diabetes care team and primary care provider ensures that your treatment plan adapts to your changing needs. Quick access to other specialists is also available when necessary. If you or a loved one is diabetic or suspect diabetes, we highly recommend establishing a relationship with a primary care provider. Our team includes a variety of providers in Creston and surrounding communities, ready to offer routine medical care and screenings for diabetes risk factors.   • Bradley Weis, PharmD, earns Antimicrobial Stewardship Certification

    Bradley Weis, PharmD., Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Greater Regional Health, was among the 20 CAH Pharmacists chosen for the program in 2023. He successfully finished the program in 2024. The Antimicrobial Stewardship training program by the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists (SIDP) emphasizes the steward's responsibility in ensuring the proper utilization of antimicrobial agents. Every year, 20 Critical Access Hospital Pharmacists are chosen to participate in this program. The program consists of two modules dedicated to education and training, and a third module where the trainee can showcase a project or initiative they intend to carry out at their healthcare facility. "Pharmacy and Medicine is constantly evolving and I recognize the importance of staying up to date with the latest advances." -Bradley Weis, PharmD. Bradley serves as both the Assistant Director of Pharmacy and the chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee at Greater Regional. He recognized the certification program as a chance to empower himself and the committee. The knowledge and skills gained from the certificate program offer GRH innovative approaches to optimize antibiotic prescribing, reduce antibiotic resistance, and enhance community health.   • SHIIP Office is Moving!

    The Senior Housing Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) office will be relocating to the Highway Medical building, 803 Wyoming Avenue this month. The move to Highway Medical will allow for a larger office space and more convenience for patients. How can I benefit from meeting with a SHIIP volunteer? SHIIP is a free, objective information service provided by peer volunteers trained by the Iowa Department of Insurance. SHIIP volunteers are trained to assist patients, families and staff in: Understanding Medicare benefits Organizing medical bills, Medicare statements, and filling Medicare claims Providing information on long-term care insurance polices Comparing and evaluating Medicare supplement polices & drug plans Recognizing Medicare fraud and abuse For information about SHIIP or to make an appointment, contact the SHIIP helpline at 641-782-3848. Want to become a SHIIP volunteer? Trained volunteers assist thousands of Iowans each year to understand their Medicare benefits and options through individual counseling sessions, community education, and special projects. Becoming a SHIIP volunteer is a great way to give back to the community and help patients understand Medicare.   • Dr. Steven Reeves Accepts Preceptor of the Year Award

    Greater Regional Health is proud to congratulate Steven Reeves, MD, FACP for his recent award recognized by Des Moines University (DMU). Steven Reeves, MD, FACP accepts the Des Moines University Masters of Science in Physicians Assistant Studies Preceptor of the Year Award. Dr. Reeves has been accepting students since 2010. Dr. Reeves plays an important role in the Greater Regional Adult Medicine Clinic and an equally important role in the development of future healthcare professionals, through his preceptorship. Please join us to recognize Dr. Reeves and his accomplishments on Wednesday, September 4th at 12pm in the DV Richardson conference room. A short program will begin at 12pm with a social to follow.     Greater Regional Health is excited to host Area Business Coffee on Friday, August 30th! Join local businesses and community members to learn about events, news and current happenings in the area. Area Business Coffee is a weekly networking event, through the Union County Development Association (UCDA). Greater Regional Health is proud to be a strategic partner with the UCDA to promote growth and collaboration in Union County. Join us at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, August 30th at the Gazebo on the southeast corner of the GRH campus (yellow star on map). Greater Regional Clinic is currently under construction.   • #GreenfieldStrong

    Greater Regional Health donated $20,000 to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation to assist with disaster relief efforts. On May 21, 2024 a devastating EF-4 tornado tore through the town of Greenfield, Iowa. The tornado claimed 5 lives and injured many others. Along with the loss of life, many Greenfield community members lost their homes and personal belongings. Many businesses were also damaged or destroyed in the tornado. Greater Regional Health and its employees donated $20,000 to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation to assist with the cleanup and rebuilding efforts. Greater Regional employees began a fund drive collecting donations and have actively volunteered to assist with disaster recovery. "In 2012, Greater Regional Health was damaged by the tornado that went through Creston. We understand the challenges ahead and we are here to help.
